“Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

-Winston Churchill

Our guest this week is Amy Riley, author of The Courage of a Leader.

Amy has spent decades teaching leaders how to step up, inspire, engage, and get extraordinary results. She helps them lead with courage.

“I want to help leaders, there is so much coming at them from all directions. I want to support them. If leaders are doing it correctly, there is a lot of processing and a lot of care, and a lot of head and heart that goes into their work.”

Why Courage?

After collaborating with leaders in multiple industries, with diverse strengths, personalities, styles, and backgrounds, Amy observed that the common virtue present in all inspiring leaders was a bold demonstration of courage. These leaders said and did the necessary — easy or not — while maintaining authenticity. That’s courage.

Here are several of many highlights of this inspiring and practical conversation with Amy:

  • Step forward despite your fears and go for the extraordinary.

  • Be at your most powerful by aligning your strengths, your passion, your interests to your energy.

  • By clarifying your leadership value, being authentic and genuine becomes easier. Watch for the trap to be all things to all people.

  • Draw energy from your leadership legacy and bring this to every decision, project, and relationship. Activate your biggest why!

  • Continue to recognize and embrace strength-based work. Allow flexibility within that framework. Permission as a leader to say, “I don’t know,” but we have the talent on this team to get us there.

  • Inspire invitation to imagine the extraordinary and go for it.
