“If you don’t pay appropriate attention to what has your attention, it will take more of
your attention than it deserves.” – David Allen

A Leadership Beyond is conducting a research project to identify the level of productive
tension around mission critical leadership activities.

We will publish a series of short videos to make it easy to understand productive tension
management, discover the power of paying attention to where we (self and others)
experience tension, and how this can positively impact change.

Productive Tension is an essential element that determines what changes should be
made and when, the likelihood those changes will take root and be sustained, and what
support will be helpful for leaders to keep people aligned and engaged with the intended
transformational change.

We invite you to listen to this short conversation with T. Falcon Napier, creator of the
ChangeGrid®, the world’s only client specific, activity specific metric in the
marketplace.

T demonstrates why tension is the critical ingredient to monitor and measure if you
want to engage and positively influence your people. This allows you to develop
communication strategies to maintain productive tension, which is key to leadership
resilience. T takes us through a series of situations looking at change through a logical,
feasible, and tension lens.

The conclusion is clear and powerful. If the tension has not reached the threshold of
activation, a change will not occur, even if it makes sense (logical) and resources are
available (feasible). Similarly, if there is too much tension (threshold of deactivation) the
change will not occur or will be too reactive and frenetic to sustain.

If this video piques your interest, we invite you to participate in our research study (at
the link below) or invite your supervisor (tension rising?)
